More snow’s in the forecast, but here’s something warm to consider: Bobby McFerrin comes to the Merrill Auditorium in Portland April 13. The 10-time Grammy award winner’s sunny and stimulating vocals can transport even the frostbitten to the tropics from the first upbeat note.
A quintessential do-it-yourselfer, he likes to say he graduated from MSU, Make Stuff Up. “Music for me,” McFerrin says, “is like a spiritual journey down into the depths of my soul. And I like to think we’re all on a journey into our souls. What’s down there? That’s why I do what I do.”
With roots in folk, Americana, jazz, reggae and a cappella, it’s hard not to find something in his musical feast to love. His latest album, “Spirityouall,” is a departure from the ’80s hit” Don’t Worry, Be Happy,” filled with bluesy, renditions of “He’s Got the Whole World In His Hands” and “Every Time I Feel The Spirit.”
The dreadlocks-swaying-barefoot McFerrin is a sure cure for the winter doldrums. Think spring! Don’t worry, get tickets here
