Jeff Tweedy rocks L.L. Bean

140527_SITP_July26Concert He has rocked arenas from coast to coast. This weekend musician Jeff Tweedy lives up to his name by taking over the L.L. Bean Campus in Freeport Saturday night for a free show.

Whether the frontman for Wilco appears in an Oxford blazer or Scotch plaid flannel is immaterial. This we do know, the Grammy winner debuts material from his upcoming solo album Sukierae and performs with a new band that includes his son Spencer on drums.

The outdoor retailer’s Summer in the Park Series hits its stride with this beloved Gen-X headliner, who, like the preppy outfitter, is aging nicely with the times.

The Chicago native is rumored to have a pied-à-terre in Portland (yes this one). Could this explain the Freeport appearance? Tweedy will perform a solo acoustic set of Wilco and Uncle Tupelo favorites. Expect rockabilly with an emo edge that will try to break your heart.

The outdoor venue Discovery Park, where a dancing tree delights scores of children at Christmastime and a farmer’s market rages on Fridays, is quietly becoming a hot summer music stage.

Thank you L.L. for keeping it free and fabulous.

The Tweedy Tour starts at 7:30 p.m. Discovery Park, Freeport.
