March is looking less like a lion now that Maine Restaurant Week has been announced for March 1 through 14. This is a two-week eating spree where the best chefs in the state whip up multi-course prix fixe (delightful French term for fixed price) meals.
Lunches start at $15 and dinners are $25 to $55. Check your receipts Portland eaters, this is a stone, cold bargain.
Similar to last year, there will be pancake relay races where wittily attired chefs and farmers sling pans with flapjacks sky high, a cocktail and dessert competition and a breakfast cook-off. Yes, you can call it an eggs bene-fit, proceeds for all events go to local charities.
Last year 100 restaurants from Bangor to Camden to the Kennebunks participated in this discount deal. Since then, umpteen new spots have opened in Portland; newcomers can sign up at www.MaineRestaurantWeek.com.
I’d like to see Lolita, Sur Lie and Ebb and Flow on this list. How about you?
There is also an app so you can find the Back Bay Grill this time. Bon Appetite!
