Portland Hunt and Alpine Club announces West End expansion

A key corner in the West End is vacant no more. Yesterday, the owners of Portland Hunt and Alpine Club announced the purchase of 211 Danforth Street.

Soon, the former home of Vespucci’s Market will be the place for the latest cocktails, camaraderie, entrees and sundries.

Andrew and Briana Volk, along with partners Ian and Kate Malin, plan to open a full restaurant, bar and general store in the building. The shop is scheduled to open in late 2016 and the restaurant/bar in early 2017.

“We don’t have much more to share at this time. We are waiting to announce our name/concept when our branding is completed and we open the shop,” said Briana Volk via email.

The owners of the Market Street house of Sazeracs, will shake up this quiet, mostly residential neighborhood. At the corner of Clark Street, diagonally across from old-school joint Ruski’s, the new food and drink emporium will add a touch of class and higher caliber spirit selection.

Andrew Volk, a Colby College grad, was named one of America’s top new mixologists by Food & Wine Magazine this year. And judging from the buzz inside their three-year-plus Old Port bar, the pair sure know how to create a scene. Let the craft cocktailing begin its westward ho!
